I refuse to be your Superhero!!

  • I can't fly
  • I do not have bat wings
  • I can't leap like a cat, have nine lives nor do I own a cat suite
  • I can't shoot spiderwebs out from my knuckles
  • I don't have a sidekick, a get away car or any form of transportation besides my legs
  • And I sure as hell aint bulletproof
So what makes you think I can all of a sudden save you when you get yourself captured and locked up by a serial killer. I was re-watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning last night and what i didn't understand was the part after the car crash when Chrissie gets thrown from the car and lands in the bushes out of sight from everyone else, Sheriff Hoyt arrives to the scene shoots Alex forces the rest of the guys in the police car and drives away. Later on Uncle Monty comes to tow away the car that is wrecked with Chrissie hidden in it and is thus driven all the way to the Hewitt/Butcher house. What I didn't understand was the fact that Chrissie decided to be the little superhero and try and save her friends who are locked up in a house with crazy cannibals?!!REALLY PEOPLE??REALLY??

If I was Chrissie and happened to be the only one free I would runaway and try to get help for my friends but from a DISTANCE, cause you saw how big and monstrous Thomas looked.......

Exhibit B:

How is a short girl like me gonna defeat a HUGE beast who likes wearing human skin as a face mask!!! Call me a selfish hag, i don't care at least I will be the selfish hag still inhaling that good old  O2 in the air.

The only superpower I do have though is the ability to pick up a telephone and dial '911' that is the best I can do for you but if you want me to promise you that if your captured I will make a U-turn to come save you? I'm sorry but that will have to take MUCH convincing and thought. I can whole heartedly promise you this though, that if I escape and help doesn't come in time to save you, when the time comes I will give you the best damn Eulogy known to man! (Because I care that much).

So this is dedicated to all my friends, followers on this blog and any potential strangers I might meet in a Horror movie like situation, unless we share the same genetic make up do not and i repeat DO NOT expect me to be your superhero, make a U-turn and come save you because 'I'm as cold as ice, i'm willing to sacrifice your life' (sing it with me now) 'Your as cold as ice, your willing to sacrifice my life'......

Homage to a Horror Legend

One hundred years ago on this very day (May 27) in St.Louis Missouri a horror legend was born. Nicknamed the Merchant of Menace this man was greatly responsible for most of my nightmares as a child and was also the one who introduced me to the horror genre and got me so addicted to it.

The legend I speak of is none other than:

Vincent Price made his first movie debut in 1938 he played in many minor movie roles but his first success was in the movie The Fall of the House of Usher (1960) which i think was such a great gothic, eerie and well directed movie. He played in many more movies but i think my top two would be:

1. House on the Haunted Hill(1959)

2.House of Wax(1953)
I absolutely loved both movies but i have to say the house of wax remake with Paris Hilton was a big BLUNDER even though i did secretly enjoy watching Paris get killed and admit rewinding that scene a couple of times, like i always say just stick to the classics i mean there that for a reason!

In any-case Price was well known for his distinct, eerie and low-pitched voice. Which is why he was picked to be the voice in Michael Jackson's worldwide known song "Thriller", the song already was pretty scary in itself but I think Vincent Price's voice  and laugh at the end of the song put it over the edge.

Although I only picked two of his movies as my all time favorites I believe ALL of his movies are wonderful cinematic creations and if you haven't watched a Vincent Price movie yet then i suggest you come out from under that rock and do so because these movies are the ones that have propelled the Horror genre to what it is today.

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY VINCENT PRICE and May your Soul Rest in Eternal Peace!

Here is a goodie list of some Vincent Price movies to check out:
  1. The House of a 1000 dolls
  2. The Last Man on Earth (1964)
  3. The Abominal Dr.Phibes (1971)
  4. Blood bath at the House of Death (1983)
  5. Return of the fly (1959)
  6. The Haunted Palace (1963)
  7. Spirits of the dead (1968)
  8. Scream and Scream again (1969)
  9. Edward Scissorhands (1993)
  10. The Story of mankind (1957)
There are of course far to many to mention all at once but if you find the time please do check at least one movie out. Also if you have any, what are your favorite memories of Vincent Price and which Vincent Price movie do you love the most?

Oh Hell No! I know you didn't just.......

  • Run away into the bathroom from your now zombified husband/ wife and then press your head against the bathroom door calling out their name and not expect for them to bash their head in trying to get through to EAT you!
  • Escape from the house were the same mentioned husband/wife is, get to the car and instead of getting in and driving away like a Formula One racer, you instead stand around stupidly watching other zombies gleefully run by and only when the said zombies actually start attacking you do you get into the car.

  • Leave a big group of people who have guns, try to be the hero by scoping the mall you are all hiding in (which mind you has soooo many dark eerie corners) and your only weapon in hand is a damn CROWBAR!!! against ZOMBIES???!!!!

  • On your quest scoping the mall you see a puddle of blood on the floor a couple of meters away from a door and instead of running the opposite direction or at least calling a person who has a gun you walk TOWARDS the door trying to investigate where the blood is coming from! This is not CSI miami people and by the way did i mention that you now have apparently upgraded to a POLO STICK!!!???
  • While walking towards before mentioned door you see possible foot shadows of someone walking up and down inside, instead of acting like you got amnesia and walk away like you didn't see anything, you go in trying to discover things but uhmm *NEWSFLASH* you aint Christopher Columbus and this aint the FREEWORLD you KLUTZ!
  • Of course no big surprise that when he opens the door there is a blood hungry Zombie inside , i mean what did he expect to find bloody unicorns! *shaking my head from side to side*

  • Try and go and save people who are outside of a safe perimeter admits zombies. If they are not blood related to you then close your eyes, ears and go to your happy place in your mind and pretend to not hear their screams outside! YEAH I SAID IT! SHOOT ME?! don't act like you wouldn't do the same we are all not Mother Teresa's of the world mmmkaaay....
  • See a whole bunch of people running past you like lunatics, you just stand there not doing a thing just wondering, asking what's wrong and why everyone is running. The golden rule is, if you see a whole bunch of people running away towards you don't say a word JUST RUN!!! ask questions later when your in a safe location!
All these wonderful tips are brought to you from watching the 2004 film 'Dawn of the Dead'. So bookmark this cause you never know when a zombie apocalypse might come and these tips come in handy.

Battle of the Serial Killers

I thought it would be really fun to have like mini little poll battles like once in a while and so for this month I bring to you:

'The Battle of the Serial Killers'

If you look in my side bar between the people that follow me and the comments section, you will see that I have started a poll and all you have to do is click on whichever serial killer you think is the baddest and scariest. Whichever one wins I will write a kickass profile on what exactly separates them from the rest and why they are so badass. Also just to add a bit of spice whichever killer wins i will go to class the next day wearing something thats characteristic of the killer in honour of their win and upload the pictures on here...and thus on that note i leave my social reputation into your hands! :)

Now enough with the chit chat......LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!!!!!

Halloween Weekend Horror Nights

So this weekends pick for Halloween Weekend Horror Nights is  the 1998 Japanese horror flick "Ringu" .

I'm sure most of you have watched the U.S movie 'The Ring' well that movie was actually based entirely off Ringu and thus has the same plot of a reporter who is tracking down the source of a cursed video and having already watched it she only has 7 days until the curse catches up with her.

I picked this movie because I think its one of the best horror movies i have ever watched and thus feel it would really make your weekend horror movie night super awesome. Since i watched it quite long ago i feel the need to watch it again and will just do that in a bit. For those who are new to my blog, Halloween Weekend Horror Nights is basically just were every weekend i suggest a really good and scary horror movie to watch ( if you are like me and like having marathon movie nights on the weekend) and after a week or so I then give a full in depth review of the movie. If you hopefully watched it too then your thoughts on the movie are totally welcomed and much needed.

Alrightee then I'm off to pop the popcorn in the microwave and set the mood for a real good night of horror...

Top 10 Horror Movies of 2010 according to me :)

10. The Last Exorcism

Think of it as new version of the 1973 The Exorcist classic, it doesn't come close to beating it but has some good attempts, although i didn't completely enjoy the movie i put it on the top 10 list as it did have some good ol' scary scenes.
check out my full review on the movie here: (http://pixieshorrorgalore.blogspot.com/2010/12/last-exorcism.html)

9. Piranha 3D

I have to be honest i didn't really have high expectations for the movie and actually put off watching it for a while, I mean come on its about fish massacring mostly half naked people at a spring break party *eyebrow raised*. But i don't know if it was watching it in 3D or not this movie didn't suck as much as i thought it would.

8. I spit on your grave

This was probably one of the most brutal movies i've watched and fella's i think this will definitely leave you cringing if not passed out on the floor. This movie is different in the fact that you will actually be cheering and rooting for the killer as she is trying to avenge the men that gang raped her.So guys i suggest you treat the ladies good cause they might just get some ideas from this movie :P

7. Mirrors 2

If you have watched the first Mirrors film then you will definitely enjoy the sequel. I held on tight to my pillow like a little baby throughout this movie and for about 2 weeks after watching it avoided looking in mirrors for long periods of time.

6. Let me in

This was probably one of the best 'disguised' vampire movies i have watched and i say disguised because you you don't even know that the little girl is a vampire, i mean technically the movie doesn't even flat out say that and thus you the viewer are left to your own conclusions. This movie had such a unique aspect to the over-used vampire concept.

5. Paranormal Activity 2

The scariest parts of this movie begin about 45minutes towards the end of the movie. It gave me chills and the scene in the kitchen when all of a sudden all the cupboards open almost made me fall out of my bed. I do feel though that Paranormal Activty 1 was better.

4. Daybreakers

Another movie that took a different and unique approach to the Vampire genre. I loved the movie but think the ending could have been much better and not as corny but Ethan Hawke is really sexy in this movie so I'm going to let this one slide *wink wink*.

3. Frozen

Lets just say this movie pretty much put off all my desires to go skiing someday. It's a great film that gives you chills throughout.

2. [REC]2

Aaah can't nobody do horror movies like the French, this a genre they have perfected and this can be seen in both Rec movies. It's such a good movie I had a hard time deciding on if it should be number 1, this is a definite MUST-SEE movie. Plus i have heard through the grapevines that there's plans for a Rec 3& possible 4, I can't wait!!!

And now the Top movie of 2010 according to me is *drum roll please*......

1. Insidious

This movie was freaking AWESOME, scary and had jumpy bits throughout the movie. I shamefully admit after watching this movie i slept with the light on...To read my full review of the movie please click on the link below:

So there you go that's my personal list! what do think? Which movie do you think was the best Horror movie of 2010?

Black Friday (Friday 13th)

So i thought it would be cool instead of just the usual movie review to unleash my inner historian and give some background information on why Friday 13th is considered to be unlucky or unholy.

The fear of Friday 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia or friggatrickaidekaphobia (dang try saying that super fast). In any case there are A LOT of theories on the origins of Friday 13th but the one i will concentrate on and find somewhat credible, goes all the way back to the Knights of Templar (if you have read Dan Browns 'The Da Vinci Code' then you probably know some background information on them).

The Knights of Templar where a military order founded in Jerusalem in the year 1118, their original mission was to guide and protect Christian pilgrims along the route from Europe to Jerusalem during the Crusades. Over time the Knights gained a lot of power, fame and wealth to the disliking of the then King Philip who felt threatened and thus ordered a mass murder of the Knights to eliminate the competition. He of course had to charge the Templar Knights with accusations so crude that death would be the only fit punishment and with the backing of the Vatican and Pope Clement V who would dare to come to their defense. The Knights were charged with Spitting and defiling the cross, homosexuality, worshipping the Baphomet (Satan) and thus denying Christ and so on.
                                                   Pope Clement V
                                             King Philip of France

On Friday October 13 1307, at a big event in front of Notre Dame Cathedral King Philip had previously forced the Templar Grand Master Jacques de Molay to publicly confess to the untruthful lies of King Philip but instead publicly denied the accusations and also testified that him and his Templar Knights where innocent men, this of course infuriated the King and he ordered for Molay and his second in command to be burned by the stake and the rest of the Knights were gruesomely tortured and killed.

Legend  has it that Molays last words was actually a curse on King Philip and Pope Clement in that they would also meet their death by the end of the year which both men did which greatly adds to the superstition of Friday 13th. Even though there isn't any proof that Friday 13th is actually an unlucky day people still to this day take great precautions when this day comes around.

So i thought what better way to enjoy the night of Friday 13th than actually watching 'Friday 13th'. So am gonna do just that in a bit, hope you all have a great weekend!

Halloween Weekend Horror Nights

So since I'm back to blogging again i have decided its out with old and in with NEW! thus now i bring to you Halloween Weekend Horror Nights where every weekend i watch a couple of horror movies but only review the horror movie which i thought was the best and would recommend for a true weekend night of HORROR! (insert Vincent Price laugh).

The movie on the chopping board today is the supernatural thriller The Rite (2011) directed by Mikael Håfström (the same guy who directed the horror movie 1408, which i really wasn't that impressed with and thus didn't have high hopes for this movie).

In any case as I have stated on my review of The Last Exorcism (if you haven't read it yet then please do http://pixieshorrorgalore.blogspot.com/2010/12/last-exorcism.html) as much as I love exorcism movies I feel the concept has been used, reused and abused like a crack pipe to a crack head but I feel even though this movie does use the same concepts as other movies before it, it definitely delivers more on the horror and scary side where most recent exorcism movies fail to deliver.

Then again with kick-ass veteran actors like Anthony Hopkins who would expect anything less than cinematic perfection.

The movie is about a skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (played by Colin O'Donoghue) who starts attending an exorcism school in the Vatican. While in Rome he meets an unconventional priest/exorcist Father Lucas(Anthony Hopkins) who tries to show the skeptic Michael that demons and evil does exist in the world and that exorcisms are real.

One thing i have to note is that this movie is apparently based on a true story and I have to say sometimes it does make me wonder if thats true or if that's just a way to make the movie more scarier as reality is a pretty scary thing in itself, now i am a superstious person so this in NO WAY is an invitation for demons to come posses my body and prove me wrong (i have enough stress and problems in my life as it is), i'm just saying these days most movies like putting the 'Based on true story' line in the beginning of their movies.

Now since the point of this 'Halloween Weekend Horror Nights' is to suggest a good movie to pop in the VCR (if you broke like me and still can't afford a DVD player :) ) and hopefully scare the crap outta you I'm not gonna delve too much into what the movie is about as i would like to give you time to watch it yourselves and then after one week give a full in depth review of the movie.

Not to leave you hanging though here is the movie trailer below, ENJOY! :

Insidious (2011)

or

Initially when i saw this movies movie poster i wasn't really intrigued and actually put off watching this movie for quite sometime, i guess the movie poster wasn't really as captivating as i would have liked it to be but in any-case after much convincing from a close friend of mine i decided to watch to it. I have to tell you even  though the movie poster wasn't that impressive Insidious  is scary as SHIT!!! but i guess it being created from the writers and directors of Saw and the producers of Paranormal Activity  i shouldn't have expected anything less than close to absolute Horror perfection.

The movie is about a married couple Josh (played by the cute Patrick Wilson) and Renai (played by the beautiful Rose Byrne) who have children and find themselves in a house that they initially think is haunted but later after moving out they realize its actually their own 'coma stricken' son that is haunted. The fact that the boy can dream travel and gets stuck in a astral realm called 'The Further' for some time leaves his body open to other elements like demons, bad spirits and ghosts who desperately want to take over his body.

This movie delivers right from the very beginning with its creepy sounds, mind-boggling images and eerie feeling. This movie was just super awesome i mean i held onto my pillow for dear life throughout the whole movie and my muscles definitely got a work out as this movie had A LOT of jumpy super scary bits in it. If  there was ever a movie i would recommend for you to watch it would definitely be this one, i think the director James Wan definitely outdid himself with an awesome cast, script and atmosphere, although the ending is kind of one of the most universally used horror endings this was definitely the best damn  horror movie i have seen in a while.

If you have the guts i DARE you to watch it alone but for the faint hearted i would definitely suggest you watch it with someone cause it's that GOOD!

If you don't believe me check out the movie trailer below....

Why I have been M.I.A for so long!!!

hi my dear horror movies lovers!!

Now i'm not one for long excuses but i do feel like i shud explain why i haven't updated my blog in sooooo friggin long but the thing is I'm currently in college and for the past couple of months assignments have been pilling up and have been having a crap load of exams! I know its a pretty lame excuse but if i want the parents to keep on financially supporting my shopping addiction then i gotta keep those grades up!

In anycase the bright side is that i'm back now and have sooo many reviews to put up to make up for lost time :). I hope y'all are doing great and i hope you enjoy my movie reviews and don't hesitate to comment, i would also  really like any good suggestions of scary movies to watch, since its kinda of becoming harder to come across a REAL good horror movie! :)
